Manually installing Chrome Extension (Manifest V3)
Due to changes forced by Google with their Chrome browser (versions prior to 139.0), the classic TAP Chrome Extension (Manifest V2) is no longer supported. These changes are not endorsed or controlled by Tailent as they provide less flexible automation functionalities under the pretext of enhanced security.
In order to provide our customers with continued support for the TAP platform, we've created a new Manifest V3 Chrome extension that will provide close functionality, similar to the previous version.
Currently, the extension is under further QA testing and will undergo the Chrome Store validation and approval process. Until that time, it will only be available as a manual add-on extension. After this validation process will be finalized by Google, the extension will be automatically installed to Chrome via the Chrome Store.
Install the Chrome Extension manually
To manually install the extension, please following these steps:
Download the Manifest V3 TAP Chrome extension from https://tailentdownload.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/Files/TAP%20Chrome%20Extension%202.0.zip
Unzip the extension to a directory of your choosing
Open Chrome (make sure the version is 139 or newer)
Navigate to chrome://extensions/
In the top-right side make sure Developer mode is activated
Click Load unpacked (top left side)
Select the folder containing the extension and click Select Folder
The extension should now be installed - but not fully configured. We will finish this a few minutes later.
Install TAP Studio 25.10.xxxx or newer
Due to changes in the extension baseline, TAP Studio 25.10 or newer is required.
Download TAP Studio 25.10.2333 from https://tailentdownload.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/Files/TAP_Studio_25.10.2333.zip
Unzip the archive and run the dedicated installer, which will install or update any existing versions
Navigate to the location where you installed TAP Studio (usually C:\Program Files\Tailent\Tailent)
Navigate to the Chrome folder in that location
Locate the com.tap.automation.json file and open it with a text editor (please note that you will like need administrative priviledges to save it)
From the Chrome browser tab (the one at chrome://extensions/) identify the TAP Extension, particularly it's ID:
Copy this ID into the json file opened at step #5, and replace the existing ID there. With the above example, the json file should like this:
This is required because the ID of the extension always changes depending on where it is unzipped and loaded.
Save the json file and close the editor
Reload the extension by clicking the reload button in Chrome:
Optionally, you can click the Errors button and clear existing errors, but this is not required.
Start TAP Studio to finish the setup process (it will make all necesarry adjustments automatically)
Once the extension is installed, properly configured and enabled, the Tailent native host application should be running. You can check this using Windows Task Manager:
At this stage, the extension is installed and functional. Please note that (as with all Chrome extensions) you will need to refresh any pages that have not been refreshed prior to installing the extension, otherwise the extension will not be active in those pages.
